The Museum Ludwig in Cologne currently has a fine Picasso exhibition. There’s an incredible still life from about 1908 and a large plaster bust of Dora Maar from 1941 covered in a transparent sepia tint.
When in Cologne, in order to get to the Museum Ludwig from the station or the cathedral, you have to walk between the cathedral and the Dom ("Cathedral") Hotel just across the square: one shot in the 1965 Huillet/Straub film Nicht versöhnt oder Es hilft nur Gewalt, wo Gewalt herrscht (Not Reconciled, or only violence helps where violence rules) ::→ was shot from a window of the hotel, showing the side of the cathedral. The beautifully intricate cathedral flattens in the shot. I want to say that it stands out in particular in this film, but every shot in this masterpiece, every one, is memorable.
Here are some photos of mine taken in Cologne last Spring, including of the cathedral.
