The Last Waltz and No Direction Home are by far Scorsese’s best films, and at the other end of the spectrum the one called Once upon a time… was terrible.
This one: sort of okay as an entertainment film. Mostly because of the brilliant choice of ingredients: organized crime, cops, Boston, Jack Nicholson, Leonardo DiCaprio, some good Boston accents, and a lot of restraint on Scorsese’s part. The last shot was pretty damn silly though. Nearly undermined all of the above, only failed to do so because it was so extremely silly.
