I did not intend to watch this to the end, but did. The film has no substance, and aspires to be a smart, time–puzzle film like, I suppose, Memento. (Such films may have been superficially influenced by Pulp Fiction but they are worlds apart, have nothing in common, and Tarantino certainly can’t be blamed for them.)
Two reasons why the ending caught me off guard were the short length of the film, only around 90 minutes (85 minutes Canadian release, 95 minutes German) and the strength of the adolescent characters who became more dominant towards the end, particularly the very strong actor Shawn Hatosy.
