Baker’s trumpet sings through my nerves into my heart.
I am still so happy I saw him here in a small Frankfurt jazz club just months before he fell to his death in Amsterdam. It was a set at 3 o’clock in the afternoon on a Sunday: he came in, sat down and said: “Good morning.”
Van Morrison sings Send in the Clowns by Stephen Sondheim with Chet Baker on trumpet. The piece is stunning, just beautiful, and alone worth buying the DVD for, though every other piece is perfect as well.
(Unfortunately I haven’t found the names of the other musicians.)
