A sober and touching movie. It could have easily gone south as an attempt at a socially redeeming entertainment film, but its intelligence and humility saved it, as well as the presence of Robert Downey Jr.

  • Title: The Soloist
  • Directed by: Joe Wright
  • Writing credits: Susanna Grant (screenplay), Steve Lopez (book)
  • Starring: Robert Downey Jr., Jamie Foxx, Catherine Keener, and more
  • Year: 2009

Che: Part One 13 July 09

Worth seeing. I started watching the DVD expecting to stop and bring it back to the rental shop, but it was good. Mostly in Spanish as well. Useful as an historical document on the Cuban revolution and the life of Che Guevara.

I look forward to seeing what Che: Part Two is like.

From www.imdb.com:

Sean Penn is stunned pal Benicio Del Toro hasn’t been recognised for his portrayal of revolutionary Che Guevara in biopic Che. Penn singled out Del Toro as one name the film award organisations had overlooked during his Best Actor acceptance speech at the Screen Actors Guild Awards on 25 January, and he’s still struggling to come to terms with the fact the four-hour epic has become the forgotten movie of 2009.

  • Title: Che: Part One
  • Directed by: Steven Soderbergh
  • Writing credits: Peter Buchman (screenplay), based on Ernesto Guevara's Reminiscences of the Cuban Revolutionary War
  • Starring: Benicio Del Toro, Demian Bichir, Santiago Cabrera, Vladimir Cruz, Alfredo De Quesada, and more...
  • Year: 2008
